Sitting out the Holidays, Too Much Empathy, and Other Recent Writings From Matt
By : Matt Lundquist -
In the past month, Matt was quoted in two articles by Refinery29, as well as published several of his own pieces on Tribeca Therapy’s frequently updated blog. Matt talked this week to Refinery29’s Sara Coughlin on choosing to opt out of the expectations and pressures of the holiday season. In “It’s Okay To Sit Out The Entire Holiday Season,” Matt discussed how people can set limits with family or friends, or even, just not attend these holiday functions entirely. Earlier in November, Matt also spoke with Sara Coughlin for “What It Means To Have A Toxic Relationship With Your Parent,” exploring what a toxic relationship is, and what children, including adult children, can do if their relationship with one or both parents is toxic.
In addition to being quoted in other publications, Matt also maintains a regular writing practice on Tribeca Therapy’s blog, including, most recently, “Can You Have Too Much Empathy?” This piece details how, depending on an individual’s early experiences, empathy can go wild and influence how he or she puts up with bad relationships and mistreatment. Matt also published “Getting Off Antidepressants and Anti-anxiety Medications,” which asserts that therapy can help with the emotional and developmental side of this process, and “Complicating the 6 Myths of Attraction” that questions the assumptions we have about attraction, building on Matt’s experiences in therapy with both individuals and couples. Additionally, Matt and Heather Mayone Kiely’s recent discussion at the Portfolio School also evolved into a blog post on the ways in which parents need to be on the same page about parenting and provide a united front with their kids.
